Cowdenbeath secured a famous play-off win and promotion to the Scottish First Division for the first time in 18 years yesterday. Goals from Joe Mbu and Gareth Wardlaw (x2) wrapped up a 3-0 aggregate win.
Brechin started well and hit the bar early through Charlie King. Cowden tried to hit back and almost snatched the league when Pau McQuade fired off the bar. Cowden were coming on top and got a deserved goal after 17 minutes. Scott McBride fired in a corner which Mbu flicked on and into the back of the net to spark pandemonium in the huge travelling support - which out numbered the home teams fans!
This lifted Cowden and it was no suprise when they scored a second. McBride swung over a tantalising cross which McQuade headered goalwards, Scott turned it away only for Wardlaw to follow up and header into an empty net. Right on half time Wardlaw flicked on a Linton cross into the back of the net to wrap up the win!
Full time saw superb scenes on the pitch with Cowden fans celebrating with their team.
