Stunning Cowden Close Gap

Last updated : 25 December 2008 By Cowden Mad
Cowden travelled to take on East Stirling last Saturday and managed to come away with the 3 points. East Stirling had been on an incredible 11 game unbeaten run which had seen impressive victorys over Montrose and Livingston in recent weeks.

Brian Fairbairn was restored to the starting 11 and repayed his manager faith in him by opening the scoring after 9 minutes. Trialist Shire goalie (a Guinean international goalkeeper) fumbled a simple cross which Fairbairn headered towards goal. Defender Eddie Forest should have cleared the ball but his fresh air swipe meant the ball hit the back of the net. Shire equalised 10 minutes later through a header from a free kick.

A tight game suddenly swung Cowdens way at the start of the 2nd half - Kenny Adamsons hopeful shot from over 40 yards out flew in of the post to regain the lead for Cowden. Halfway through the half Paul McQuade pounced on another defensive error to round the keeper and cooly slot the ball into the empty net.

The scoring wasnt over there as Fairbairns rocket from the edge of the box left the keeper with no chance. A perfect ending to a perfect day for Cowden.

To make it better for Cowden every other club in the top 5 of the league lost meaning that Cowden sit 1 point of top spot with a game in hand.

Next up is Forfar Athletic at Central Park on the 27th. Everyone at Cowdenbeath and Blue Brazil Mad would like to wish our readers a very merry christmas!
