Raith Pay Penalty

Cowdenbeath booked their place in the final of the 2009/10 Fife Cup final with a narrow victory over first division Raith Rovers. On a wet night both sides fielded young teams augmented with first team players needing first team football.

Raith started off better but the first meaningful chance of the game fell to Cowdens John Ferguson but his tame header was easily saved by former Cowden goalie Gary O'Connor. Raith took the lead right on half time from Mark Ferry who shot home after a corner was cleared.

Cowden upped their game but couldn't hit the back of the net. Just as the game was about to head into injury time though Scott Linton popped up with a screamer from the edge of the area to send the game into penalties.

Cowdens last penalty shoot out had cost them promotion but there was to be no repeat of that as Mark Ramsay, Scott McBride, John Ferguson and Craig Winter all hit the back of the net (along with Jamie Mackie, Mark Ferry and Robert Sloan of Raith). Tom Graham blasted his effort high over the bar and young James Drummond saw his penalty saved by new Cowden goalie Cameron Mackay (signed from Hamilton Croatia - no joke - who play in Canada. He signed just before the end of the transfer deadline).

So its is Cowden who head to the Fife Cup final (which will be hosted at Central Park) and will play either Dunfermline or East Fife/Burntisland.
