Late Show Seals A Point

What a weird feeling at the end of the game - delighted to snatch a point but gutted we didnt get all 3. Cowden started well and opened the scoring from a cracking header from Wardlaw after 10 minutes. After that Stirling only had one good chance in the first half (Prunty firing wide) where as Cowden had McBride shoot wide and have a shot parried away and were creating many good chances which we couldnt put away (missing McQuade and Wardlaw).  Cowden definetly the better side in the first half.

Second half was a strange affair. Cowden dominated the start and should have had a penalty when McBride was blatantly tripped. How the ref and linesman both missed it is beyond me.  Grehan then commited his 100th foul of the game and got a deserved second booking (after a pathetic dive in the first half).  This seemed to transform Stirling who should have equalised but Droudge did a sensational block when the goal was gaping.

Then Toorie fouls one of the Stirling players in the box and its a penalty which was well taken. Then disaster, McKenna breaks through and calmly lobs the ball in the top corner.  Cracking goal - his celebration though disappointed me. If it wasnt for Cowden he might not have had a chance in football and to run the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of us got all the Cowden fans wound up.

I had my head in my hands at this point as we could hear the Stirling fans singing "Top of the league" etc.  One last chance is what I prayed for. Linton fired a shot over and I thought that was that.  All of a sudden Stein has the ball in the box (looked offside to me) and his cut back is met by Armstrong.  Cracking block from the defender but the ball roles straight to John Ferguson to slot home and send the Cowden support crazy.  I will never forget that goal just for the celebrations after.

So that draw leaves Cowden still top of the league.  Next up is Alloa in the Scottish Cup at Central Park next Saturday.
