Cowdenbeaths good run of 4 games unbeaten has come to an end at Central Park today after a 2-1 defeat to table toppers Stirling Albion. Cowden took an early lead through Scott McBride only for Martin Grehan to score a brace before half time and seal the 3 points.

Cowden started the game brightly and took the lead after only 4 minutes with Scott McBride getting on the end of John Robertsons cross to cooly fire home. Seconds later McBride almost got another but headered Fairbairns cross inches wide as Stirling struggled to cope with the Cowden attack.

Against the run of play Stirling got an equaliser - the Stirling keepers kick out got through the defence and Grehan calmly ran through 1-on-1 with Davie Hay and slotted home. Grehan got his second after 34 minutes headering home from a free kick.

There were few chances for either side in the 2nd half. Fairbairn and Stein both had long range free kicks narrowly miss while former Cowden star Davie McKenna had a shot well saved by Hay.

First defeat in 4 games for Cowden who will look to bounce back next week away to Stenhousemuir.  The Cowdenbeath Supporters Club bus to Ochilview for the match v Stenhousemuir this Saturday will leave Central Park at 1.15.  Seats can be booked by phoning David Allan on 01383 724000 or daallan6754@aol.com
