Cowdenbeath defeated 2nd division Peterhead in the first round of the Alba Challenge Cup. The team started with new signings Scott McBride, Neil McCabe and Gareth Wardlaw all getting a start.

The opening 15 minutes saw Cowden on top and a long range shot from McBride was well dealt with by the Peterhead keeper. Against the run of play Peterhead opened the scoring when a ball over the top found Sharp who cut the ball back to Bavidge to lash home the opening goal. Cowden the struggled to make any ground in the first half and were lucky to not be 2 or 3 goals down as Bavidge fired wide on numerous occasions and Davie Hay made some good saves.

The second half Cowden came out and played some wonderful football and got the goal their play deserved just a few minutes into the second half. Jay Steins near post corner may have taken a touch of McBride as it headed into the back of the net. At 1-1 Cowden turned the screw and got a fine second goal through Paul McQuade. Stein out-paced Bobby Mann before cutting back for McQuade to take a couple of touches before firing a low left foot shot in of the post.

This proved to be the winning goal and Cowden progress to the 2nd round.
