Cowden Knocked Out Of Cup

Cowdenbeath were knocked out the Alba Challenge Cup after first division Dundee somehow ended up winning 3-0 at Central Park. In a very even game, the deciding factor was Dundees 2 £100K+ signings Leigh Griffiths and Gary Harkins.

Griffiths opened the scoring after 20 minutes when he diverted Paul McHales superb free-kick past Davie Hay. Cowden pressed for an equaliser and created many chances. Droudge headed over, Wardlaw headered wide, McQuade shot just wide, Bullock tipped over a stunning Kenny Adamson shot before it was time for the introduction of Gary Harkins. Harkins scored soon after coming on with a long range effort before his skill created an oppurtunity for a cross which Curier got on the end off and headered home.

3-0 was a very flattering scoreline for Dundee and Cowdenbeath deserve great credit for the entertaining way they played their football. Always passing and moving. If Cowden play like this every week then there is every chance that Cowden can do well in the league this year.
