Cowden head to Dumbarton

Last updated : 18 September 2008 By Cowden Mad
Cowden head west this weekend to take on 3rd Division rivals Dumbarton. The Sons have had a good start to the season and are currently sitting in 5th place in the league. Victory in their last game against Albion will give them confidence and will also get rid of the memories of a demoralising 7-0 loss to St Mirren in the cup.

Cowden will be boosted after their narrow 2-1 victory over Berwick last weekend. Goals from Gemmell (who will be returning to his old club this Saturday) and Fairbairn wrapped up the 3 points and Cowden will be desperate to keep in touch with Stenhousemuir at the top of the league. Cowden will be boosted after a good win in the reserve cup (3-0 against St Johnstone) and they will be hoping for Paul McQuade, Mark Baxter and Joe Mbu to all be back in contention for selection this weekend.

In total the 2 sides have met 114 times with Dumbarton narrowly having won more games by a single game. The last time the 2 sides met was in the League Cup last season and The Blue Brazil cruised to a 2-0 victory. Cowdens last away victory v Dumbarton was nearly bang on 8 years ago. Goals from Mark Bradley, Craig Winter, Keith Wright and John Paul Burns gave Cowden the points in a 4-2 victory. The last time the 2 sides met on league business in Dumbarton saw Cowden crash to a 3-1 defeat thanks to goals from Paddy Flannery, John Dillon and Emeka Obidile.

Currently there are no Dumbarton players who have played for Cowden before. John Gemmell has started banging the goals in for fun and he played for the Sons in over 50 games but only scored 8 goals. He will definetly be looking to add to his 4 goals for the Blue Brazil on Saturday.

The Cowdenbeath Supporters Club bus to Dumbarton for the League match
this Saturday 20th September will depart from Central Park at 12 noon.
All are welcome to travel and once again we encourage all fans to get
on board and support the club. To book a seat or for any further
details contact David Allan on 01383 724000 or daallan6754@aol.com

Dumbarton FC are holding their annual Raise The Rock day and so prices have been dropped down to £5 for adults and £3 for OAPS and concessions. There should be a large Cowden contingent going through for the game so this should generate a good atmosphere.
